New household waste collection service
To help recycle more and throw away less, we are introducing a new waste collection service.
The new waste collection service will be introduced in phases, with different areas in the district starting the new service at different times.
In the next few weeks, you will be able to visit our website to find out which phase you are in. We will let you know when you can do this in a future email.
The first phase will start in June 2025, and we will be writing to residents in that phase area in the next couple of months.
Whichever phase you are in, we will send you information in the post before the changes are due to start in your area.
We will explain:

With the new service you will be able to recycle your food waste, which we will collect every week.
Households will use wheelie bins for recycling and rubbish (general waste), and smaller caddies for food waste. If you live in a flat, you may use wheelie bins or shared communal bins instead.
Recycling and rubbish will be collected on alternate weeks. This means we will collect your rubbish one week, and your recycling the next week.
Glass collections will remain every four weeks using your current black glass collection box.
You can read more information about the new service on our website.
Donating unopened toiletries and cleaning products
To support BBC Radio Solent’s Soapbox Appeal, we’re collecting donations of unopened toiletries and household cleaning products across our information offices.
Collection boxes are available at each of our information offices until Friday 31 January. The items will then be collected and distributed to those who need them at community hubs.
Read more information about the appeal on BBC Radio Solent’s website.
Recycling real Christmas trees until 14 January
If you’ve still got a real Christmas tree, you can drop it off at one of 11 recycling collection locations until 14 January.
Please remove all decorations from the tree, and when dropping it off please put the tree as far down the bay as possible.
Earlier this week, over the course of only 3 days, we recycled over 2,000 of your real Christmas trees!
We’re recycling the trees by chipping them to create mulch. The mulch will be used locally to help keep moisture around plant roots, and to prevent weeds from growing.
The drop-off locations are:

Please only drop off real trees to the locations listed as any trees left in car parks not on this list will be treated as fly-tipping.
